🧡Shame is such a powerful and consuming emotion. It can keep us trapped in an on-going cycle of self-punishment, self-abuse and self-resentment.
🧡Releasing yourself from this cycle of shame begins with understanding that we are not the same person we were when we had the experience. We have learned and grown since then. We have better coping skills and courage to express ourselves.
🧡Many of us that grew up in toxic or abusive homes, operated in survival mode and may have never learned healthy coping skills.
🧡Now that we are adults and can discover new, healthier ways of coping, we can learn to drop our old ways of managing- which are no longer working for us in our adult lives.
🧡We can forgive ourselves for past choices we made and how we coped while living in "survival mode" or while we were "walking wounded". We can ask others to forgive us as well for the hurt we may have inadvertently inflicted.
🧡Working through the source of our shame with a trained therapist- along with journaling, meditation and Reiki- can release us from our self-imposed prison of shame and set us on the path to freedom and forgiveness.
